Claressa Shields vs. Lani Daniels Full Fight Night Recap from Detroit
Claressa Shields returned to the ring for the first defense of her undisputed women’s heavyweight title on Saturday night, taking on multi-division champion Lani Daniels at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. The highly anticipated main event was streamed live on DAZN.
Before Shields, the three-time undisputed world champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, stepped into the spotlight, fans witnessed a thrilling night of boxing with four exciting undercard fights. One of the biggest highlights was the return of former middleweight titleholder Tony Harrison, who made his comeback after a two-year layoff by facing Edward Ulloa Diaz in a scheduled 10-round middleweight clash.
Here are all the undercard results from Detroit’s LCA:
Samantha Worthington Clinches Interim WBO Junior Welterweight Title
Samantha Worthington (12-0, 7 KOs) preserved her undefeated record and secured the interim WBO junior welterweight championship after a gritty battle with Victoire Piteau (14-3, 2 KOs). Her relentless pressure early in the fight set the tone, as she outboxed Piteau to earn a majority decision victory.
Judge Rose Gross scored the contest 99-91 in favor of Worthington, while Gloria Martinez Rizzo had it 96-94. One judge, Pasquale Procopio, saw the fight as even at 95-95.
Despite a late rally from Piteau, who landed several strong combinations in the final rounds, it was Worthington’s crisp counter-punching and aggressive body work earlier in the bout that proved decisive. With this win, Worthington moves one step closer to challenging Katie Taylor, the current undisputed champion at 140 pounds.
Caroline Veyre Dominates Boudersa to Win WBC Silver Title
Canadian boxer Caroline Veyre (10-1, 0 KOs) showcased her elite technique and footwork in a dominant performance over Licia Boudersa to win the WBC silver featherweight title. The fight also served as a WBC title eliminator, making the victory even more meaningful.
Veyre controlled the pace from the opening bell, utilizing angles, movement, and sharp combinations to outclass Boudersa. Judges scored the fight unanimously for Veyre: 99-91 (twice) and 98-92.
The statistics backed up the decision, with Veyre landing 158 total punches to Boudersa’s 60, and dominating the power punch count 105 to 32. The fight had tense moments as well, especially in the later rounds, with head clashes leading to a cut over Boudersa’s head and visible swelling under her eye. Referee Juergen Langos issued several warnings as the fight grew more physical, but Veyre’s composure and discipline secured her the win.
Kahmel Makled Impresses with Knockout; More Results
Local favorite Kahmel Makled (3-0, 3 KOs) put on a powerful display in front of his home crowd. The Michigan-based light heavyweight floored pro debutant Devario Hauser three times before finishing the fight with a spectacular stoppage, maintaining his perfect knockout record.
Also on the card, Cameran Pankey (12-1, 4 KOs) continued his upward momentum, winning a six-round featherweight bout against Dominique Griffin (6-10-2, 2 KOs) by unanimous decision.
In middleweight action, Jaquan McElroy (3-0, 1 KO) earned a decision victory over Joshua Flores (5-7, 2 KOs) in a four-round contest.
Rounding out the undercard was rising heavyweight Sardius Simmons (2-0, 1 KO), who added another win to his record with a points win against veteran Demetrius Banks (13-17-2, 6 KOs). Simmons, a southpaw, displayed solid fundamentals as he built on the momentum from his professional debut just last month.
With a stacked lineup leading into the Shields vs. Daniels main event, Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena delivered a memorable night for boxing fans, filled with rising talent, potential future champions, and exciting finishes.
